St. Peter’s
Anglican
Primary School has
participated in J Rock since 2007. J Rock is the Primary School equivalent of
Rock Eisteddfod. Schools create an eight minute dance and drama performance
that is supported by a pre-recorded soundtrack, sets, props and costumes.
J Rock is a school community project that involves the students, staff and
parents creating a wonderful entertainment production. The sets, costumes,
choreography, design and production is a combined effort that comes together
over a time period of approximately 7 months.
In 2009, St Peter's produced a dynamic J Rock piece depicting the story of Moses and the 'Exodus' from Egypt.. As a primary school, we were very encouraged to be invited to perform in front of 8 000 people as a showcase item at the Premier Division Grand Final of the High School Rock Eisteddfod at The Sydney Entertainment Centre.
In 2008,
our J Rock team recreated the story of ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. Our
production focused on the strong Christian symbolism of the famous C.S. Lewis
novel. Our students embraced the challenge and performed exceptionally well. It was a great team effort and we received perfect scores in every area of judging.
In 2007, our
performance was entitled ‘Amazing Grace: The Story of John Newton’. It
chronicled the life of famous minister and hymnist John Newton, who was
originally involved in the slave trade before devoting his life to God. We performed at Homebush in front of an audience of 5 000.
