"It is my privilege to lead the team of specialised and dedicated staff at St Peter's Heart. It is our goal to create a safe, engaging and welcoming space to help your child reach their full potential.
Every child is special and made in the image of God. We believe all children have a great worth regardless of what they can or can’t do. The staff at St Peter's Heart will celebrate your child’s individuality by both providing educational support and developing your child’s strengths. While providing a nurturing environment, we will also look for appropriate opportunities to integrate your child within the mainstream school.
We want to partner with you in your child’s education. I look forward to developing a close working relationship with you as we work towards a shared goal – the success of our students."
St Peter’s Heart is a Kindergarten to Year 6 school for students diagnosed with mild to moderate Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or
Intellectual Disability. To meet our enrolment criteria applicants must be able to provide recent documented evidence (with 12 months) of a diagnosis of either level 1 or level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Moderate intellectual disability from a medical profession qualified to make the diagnosis. If a student has a combination of level 2 and level 3 ASD then the suitability of the student for enrolment will be at the discretion of the school.
St Peter’s Heart is co-located on the grounds of St Peter’s Anglican Grammar in Campbeltown. Initially, the school is utilising the Whitehouse, a heritage building with adequate space for classrooms, office, clinic, and toilet facilities. There is a quiet playground space for St Peter’s Heart students who may also access the shared playground and learning spaces of St Peter's Anglican Grammar.
We currently have two classes, a K - 2 and a 3 - 6. Each class has a teacher and a teacher's assistant. All students at St Peter’s Heart have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) developed in consultation with parents or caregivers. The IEPs set short and long term learning goals for each student and outline adjustments and strategies that will assist in achieving these goals. Students are taught using the same curriculum and syllabus as any other primary classroom. Adjustments to learning are only made when they are necessary for the individual student.
Each class can take approximately 7-10 students with a Teacher and Teacher’s Assistant.
One of the key aspects of ‘two schools - one learning community’ is the possibility of integration between St Peter’s Anglican Grammar and St Peter’s Heart, creating an inclusive and diverse educational community which greatly enhances whole life learning. Student integration will be encouraged and supported by our learning enhancement staff on a case-by-case basis where it is appropriate and beneficial for students.
